This is not a comment but rather a request for some information. I live at Running Stream and am currently revisiting old spots that I went to as a kid, teenager and adult. (now 50 yrs old).

Carlos Gap is the place in question. I am aware of the colliery to ther noth of the tunnel (LHS facing Clandulla)and the old tracks leading from the adit to the railway line.

A couple of decades ago I found some riuns of buildings (sandstone foundations, fireplace etc) in the gully below (RHS) the railway line. I usedto surmise that these were from a "village" to support the coal mine. Two days ago I tested the theory by walking upstream to the railway. What I found was a skipline that proceeded up and over Carlos Gap itself. The skipline could still be sen on the Clandula side going (I assume) to several old shale mines under the cliffs towards the Vulcan.

Do you have any information on these shale mines? Where/how was the ore transported passt the "village"? Any clues on dates etc.

I will be walking the skip line next Sunday to find any old mines that are there. I remember at least two from bike riding days, but never noiced the skipline.

Anyway, thanks for your wonderful web page. If you're ever over this way and need accommodation, offsider or whatever, please let me know.

Sincerely

Guy Sim
